Fuddler

Fuddlers are about the size of a Colly dog, but with a longer nose. They are very cunning hunters. They sit quietly in the tall grass beside a game trail and wait. Then, when a small animal comes along, they take a deep breath and snort a load of poisenous snot from their nose. At that moment in the forest, there are only two sounds; a hollow-sounding "fudd" as the snot shoots out, and a satisfying "splat" as the snot hits its target. All animals in Chaladon are terrified of this "fudd" sound, even Squeezers because Fuddler snot in the eyes can be very painful.

After a successful splat, the happy
Fuddler washes off the poisonous
snot in the nearest pond, and - - -

noisily eats his dinner, bones
and all, his many sharp teeth
making a sound like a garbage
disposal full of chicken bones.

Since the only known protection against Squeezers is a Fuddler, Chaladonians have been putting model Fuddlers around their houses for hundreds of years in order to scare away any Squeezer that might want to sneak into nearby bushes. Chaladonian kids also put model Fuddlers in their bedrooms.

After all, when a strange sound wakes you up in the middle of the night - - - when everyone else is fast asleep - - - and it is very dark - - - it is very comforting to know that your little Fuddler will protect you from being squeezed until your eyeballs pop out.

Do model Fuddlers provide real protection? Well, consider this: Chaladonian kids have been putting model Fuddlers under their beds for at least 800 years, and it is a proven and well-known fact, that during that entire time, not even one little kid has been attacked in the night by a Snaggle Tooth Squeezer. What more proof might one want?
